I HATE THE WORD COACHING

I hate the word coaching. Strange thing to say for a coach.

But it’s been bandied around so much, it’s become a Jack-of-all-trades: whistles, instructions, performance plans, pep talks… you name it.

If anything, coaching looks more like stabilisers on a bike. Remember them?

Not steering.

Not controlling.

Not permanent — just quietly there, helping you find your balance.

I listen. Properly.

I say what others won’t.

I reflect what’s actually there.

And then we work it through. Together.

Not for me. For you.

I care.

Call it coaching if you like.

Just don’t expect it to feel how you expect.
